Darwin has over twenty years of wealth management experience. In addition to more than a decade spent as an institutional portfolio manager, he is an accomplished trust and estates attorney, specializing in tax law. In 2015, Darwin founded a boutique wealth management firm, Magnolia Advisors, Inc. melding his experience in tax law, investment management, and estate planning.
Darwin was born in Chicago and raised in the western suburbs, where he attended Proviso East High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, and Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M) study at Northwestern University School of Law.
After graduating law school, he worked in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office before transitioning into Finance. He began his investment career on the bond sales desk of ABN AMRO, N.A. (LaSalle National Bank) but soon moved to New York where he worked as an institutional portfolio manager for J.P. Morgan Investment Management. Years later, he would affiliate with a large law firm and specialize in estate planning. That tax law practice grew into his current specialty of wealth planning.
Darwin is founder of The Wealth Gap Initiative, Inc., a nonprofit which provides financial education and resources supporting his message of economic empowerment. He is an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ where he recently established Trinity for Ethiopia, Inc. – a charitable nonprofit corporation. He is also involved in the visual arts community and serves on various committees for several New York museums.
He is a Board Member of the University of Illinois Black Alumni Association (BAN), a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and enjoys cycling with the Major Taylor Cycling Club of Chicago. Currently, he is training for the 2018 Chicago Triathlon.
